Dyson air purifier filter replacement (UK)

Dyson's fan-purifiers use a combined HEPA + activated-carbon filter unique to each generation. They're sleek — and among the most expensive filters to feed. Here's what your model takes, the typical cost, and a cheaper way to clean the same air.

How often does a Dyson filter last?

Dyson estimates about 12 months at 12 hours a day, shown as a countdown on the unit. Heavy use, pets or wildfire smoke shorten that. As with the others, HEPA and carbon are bonded together, so you bin both even if only the carbon is spent.

Why Dyson filtration gets expensive

A £60–£90 filter every year is the highest ongoing cost of the mainstream brands. The airflow through a slim tower is also modest, so clean-air delivery per pound spent is low compared with a high-airflow box on cheap standard media.

The cheaper, no-lock-in alternative

Dyson filters only fit Dyson machines, so you pay whatever the brand charges, for as long as you own it. A purifier built around standard-size MERV-13 breaks that cycle.

Common questions

Can I wash a Dyson air purifier filter?

No. Dyson filters are sealed HEPA + carbon units and are not washable — water ruins the media. Only the outer surfaces should be wiped; the filter itself is replace-only.

How much do Dyson filters cost per year in the UK?

Typically £50–£90 for one combined filter, replaced roughly annually — the highest ongoing filter cost among the popular brands at the time of writing.

Is there a cheaper air purifier with the same filtration?

A high-airflow purifier using standard MERV-13 media captures ~93% of airborne particles and re-filters for a fraction of the price, though it won't have Dyson's fan styling or app features.
